The last time I dreamt about the World Cup was during the time France went up against Portugal in the semis. I dreamt that France won but keeping in mind part of the psychodynamic interpretation of dreams which is wish fulfillment, I suppressed it while semi-consciously trying to go back to sleep.
This time, there was no dream and when the TV went on at around 4AM, I groggily braced myself on hearing which team had won in the final--Italy or France. To my surprise, the game was still on and just went into extra time to break the 1-1 tie. I went back to sleep (at least, I tried to) and 45 minutes later, I hear that Italy is up 3-2 on a penalty shootout. I thought, ‘great, Italy’s gonna win’. Sure enough, they did with a final score of 5-3.
Honestly, I didn’t feel so bad as I watched the CNN coverage and how the Italians raved. Sure, it was disappointing but I figured they were the better team this time and they must really, really, REALLY want it. Besides, if they were against another team, I’d probably root for Italy. Probably. I’m starting to be really okay about it when I heard something that I wished I misunderstood…
Imagine my disbelief when I learned that Zidane got sent off with a red card after head-butting an Italian player!
What the--?!?!
I saw the replay of the scene and it was painful to watch. The act was deliberate and the consequence justifiable. That was just way too bad—what a way to mark his retirement! I didn’t know which was worst—my team losing or my favorite player being sent off—on the last bloody game of his career because of something he intentionally did!? >__<

“….”
No, wait—I know, and it’s the latter.
Good thing Roger Federer was able to deliver and keep his Wimbledon title against Rafael Nadal. If not, it would be a triple whammy for my bets…and that’s sad.
