Detoxifying Weekend + 1 Day Off

A lot has been accomplished—and none of them were related to schoolwork, ergo, no stress and no anxiety. Yeah!

Saturday: I went out with old friends Li, Grey and her bf Red. It’s mostly catching up especially with Grey since it has been a year(?) that we last saw her. It’s ironic that half of our ‘catching up’ involved reminiscing about the projects that we’ve done—like our thespian adaptation of Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado, our kick-ass debate on Pro-Death Penalty [conceptualized in a small office RIGHT BESIDE the school’s MAIN chapel!], Hauntings and Spirit Questors for a Religion class and our research about the Ozone Disco Tragedy. Yup, nothing beats sensible conversations over steaming coffee.

Sunday: I checked out the sale over at Galleria…actually, I was hoping that I’d see a cheap tennis racquet on sale. I just didn’t expect that a “cheap tennis racquet on sale—50% OFF” would mean shelling out about Php 2K! I knew tennis racquets can be expensive but I never expected that some actually reach a Php 12K price tag!!! So much for my plans of getting one of my own…I’ll have to settle with my dad’s old school racquets.

Monday: Quiaps, Choco and I went iceskating. I gotta hand it to those newcomers who were able to bear the weight of the skates and went all out for three hours. I’d say…for Choco, her word for the day is ‘balance’, for Quiaps, it’s ‘bum’ and for me, it’s ‘Game!’. It has been a loooong time since I last skated so it took a while before I got the hang of it [IIRC, this would’ve been my second/third time]. I still cannot believe I was able to persuade my mom to buy me a pair of inline skates when I was younger—that helped a lot in learning how to skate. I still can’t skate backwards though. Haha!

Cogitations of an Idle Mind v.2

• Actually, it’s not very idle right now. My anxiety level is so above my head lately—yesterday and today (…maybe even until the end of the week…ugh…). Fortunately, there are little things that keep me sane, somehow.

• Recently saw the 1st round match of Marcos Baghdatis against Thomas Johannson (I just realized how good his serves are!) in the ATP Masters Series Cincinnati. Baghdatis won (YAY!). It would’ve been nice to see him go against Marat Safin (who’s on a losing streak) in the second round but he lost (the losing streak continues….).

• I also saw two Roger Federer games—one was the Finals match in the Rogers Cup against Richard Gasquet, and the other was the first round of ATP Masters Series Cincinnati against Paradorn Srichaphan. They both fought hard against Federer but….somebody please STOP this guy!!! Rafa!!!

• I’m getting hooked on Tenipuri again. The characters have increased exponentially from the last time I followed the series—too much names…confusing.

• Yes! Star Sports will televise the UEFA Champions League this September. More football!

• My contenders for Rockstar: Supernova…Dilana > Magni > Lukas > Ryan. Hopefully they will be in the finals.

Art…Attacked!

I tried dealing with paint this time (it’s actually poster paint…I don’t really have ‘real’ watercolors). Obviously, I still have a long way to go. I’ve never really used paint as much; I’m more of a colored pencil, pencil or ink person. I don’t do still life that much either. Darn, I screwed the red one up.

I’m beginning to like paint, maybe even watercolors—it’s a lot faster than rendering with colored pencils. It’s hard to render the details with the limited brushes that I have. Not to mention how to ‘control’ the amount of paint and how wet the brush should be. Heh, I can’t even do a decent wash.

And I’ve recently attempted a portrait. I’ve been putting this off for the longest time until I learned that one of my colleagues is taking up art lessons and I guess I was motivated [or got envious, hehe]. I think it’s safe to say that it looks like a human being but making it look like someone is another story. ^_^ Haha, any guesses? [BTW, much thanks for the kind words of T-chan, Choco and K-chan on this]

Hmm…I think I’ll post this old pic I did years back. I used mostly fine line pens with points ranging from .2 to .8. Didn’t bother too much on the details. I’m never patient with details. My bad. I’m thinking of messing with pastel on still life next time...and I still owe K-chan 7 of our ‘art projects’.

But before that…I need to go back to being the grounded theorist. ^_~
