Road Trip Minus the Car - Part 02

After our ice skating escapade, Quiaps, Choco and I decided that it should be followed up by another event such as wall climbing, kart racing or target shooting. We planned to do that before this year ended. Unfortunately, due to our erratic work schedules, we never got around to actually do any of the aforementioned activities.

Until today. And it still wasn’t any of the three we planned.

Travel time from Balibago Complex to Tagaytay Marketplace/Terminal took about 40 minutes. I’m so glad I’m not in a racing mood these past few months because the road conditions, plus mountain side backdrop was so perfect for fast driving! (And I saw a Lancer EVO VII along with 2 really nice sports cars…which I didn’t notice the make since my eyes were glued to the EVO =) Though as I think about it now, I don’t mind the commute either since it’s also relaxing to just enjoy the sceneries and not mind which gear the car is supposed to be in. See, there were mostly newly built real estates and pineapple-covered mountaintops but if you view these really fast, like in a jeepney that’s trying to run 60-70mph, they look good.

When we got to the terminal, we were faced with a major dilemma—where the heck will we go? After much futile debate between Quiaps and Choco, they decided to let me decide. Me, who was the total clueless stranger in town with a ticking travel time limit! Initially, I thought going somewhere with establishments would be best but after finding out that we would have to travel some more, we opted to go to buy some junk food and head over to Picnic Grove via tryke instead.

After paying the entrance, we looked for a table where we can hang out. Wait, I haven’t mentioned how cold it was there. And windy. Cold and windy. Where’s a bloody jacket when we needed one?!?!? Despite that, we still ended up catching up on some things like Choco and her uncanny experiences that would pass for the next Shake, Rattle and Roll XIXI and my and Quiaps’ misadventures with our thesis advisers. We would’ve stayed longer if not for the drizzle that turned into rain, driving us back to the market/terminal.

What’s a road trip without the Pinoy practice of ‘pasalubong’? I think were were mesmerized by the pineapple mountain tops that we ended up buying pineapples. We tried looking like we know how to distinguish a good pineapple but decided that the façade was just making us look sillier. We bought six, each of us taking home two.

The trip back to Balibago Complex was faster, mostly because it was downhill and our jeepney was full. It inspired the three of us to ponder on a physics question—which would travel faster in a downhill route, a heavier object or a lighter one? (Um…so which is it, really?) When we arrived, Choco escorted Quiaps and I to the bus terminal and we went our separate ways. Back in Manila a little over an hour later, Quiaps and I went our separate ways.

And that’s the year-end road trip.
