“Roomkeeping” Series: Books I’ll Probably Never Grow Out Of

Much as I like reading, I admit that I got rid of books that I felt I would no longer read in 10, 20 or 30 years time. I had a lot of Sweet Valley Series (Twins, High and University) and Archie Comic Digests, Sweet Dreams pocketbooks, some R.L. Stine and…ah, I already forgot. The operative term here though, is “had”. All of these books are gone now.

I suppose it’s reasonable since as one grows up, tastes in genres change and basically, one grows out of the general “juvenile” theme. However, there are exceptions…^_^

The Sesame Street Library Series. I have six volumes of these, not chronological, unfortunately. I don’t exactly remember how I got these but each volume is great. It’s like “reading” (as opposed to watching) Sesame Street and it’s not thick at all. But the content is good—both graphics and texts. I remember one story that was serialized—it was called “The Perils of Penelope”. It was a nice recollection because at the time, it was the first time that I encountered the name Penelope, hence, always read it as “pe-ne-lowp” ^^; It was also nice since Bert was in drag, LOL! Anyway, since my books were incomplete, I never found out what happened to Penelope and how Ernie was able to save, um, her. Oh, I can sniff why-can’t-I-quit-you between these two! Hahaha, just kidding.

Charlie Brown’s Super Book of Questions and Answers Series. These books are a lot thicker than the Sesame Street ones and are straightforward, in a sense that it’s format is Question and Answer type. I think my cousin gave this to me and it was not complete…and I lost one volume (I’ve always regretted misplacing the book—and it was about outer space! *sulks*). I never found these books boring since what else could be more fun than reading about rocks while the Peanuts gang perk you up with their witty remarks? The comic strips and Peanuts gang illustrations made it for me. AND using these books as reference, I learned how to draw Snoopy and realized that certain select canines can use the typewriter.

Throughout the many roomkeeping sessions I had (as time would permit), I’ve always come across the above books and not once have I considered throwing or giving them away. I suppose if I can describe these books, it would be “timeless, classic and priceless”.

Haha..I kind of know that sesame street series..is it six, I thought it is only four..I think the ones we have are only four. I don't quite read this often before. I did enjoy the tv series - grade 5 and still watching. ^^; No anime before =P I just like to catch the scene where Ernie is shouting about a calling the fish -- fishie, fishie come up to the boat, something like that and it stuns Bert for he can't do it..in the end, he did, it is a shark. ^_^

Haha, we have that snoopy thing, too. Is the first volume about human body, red and the last is I think about holidays. That is a good read, I read the ones I'm interested in many times.

Archie comics are given to my bro-in-law since he likes them. Didn't get into Sweet Valley and have only a few Sweet Dreams. Ya, have some of RL Stine, too - thriller, right? Those are already in the 'twilight zone' storage. Hehe

Geez, I'm feeling old all of a sudden. ^^;;;

Is there still SSt now? hehe, ya, i remember that scene though i like oscar the grouch also--he's the only negative energy that i know in a kid's show ^_^. I think there are more volumes (i have vol. 8).

about charlie brown, I have the white (1st, animals), blue (?, lost, space) and red (4th, culture). Ah, christopher pike is the other thriller thing...yup, like stine.

cleaning can really make one feel old (that's why i do it once a year---joke!)

I don't think there is any more SSt showing in the PHils. I don't know if if it is still shown in the US either.

Ah, I think it is a different Charlie Brown set. Mine is Red first about the body. Second about animals. Third about Dinosaurs.

Ya, have read some of Christopher Pike, too. I think that there is novel by him that seems to be a rip off of Twin Peaks. ^^;;

aargh, you REMINDED me how i didn't pass the "EQ" test back then. i have the complete Sesame Street series and just like you, i liked The Perils of Penelope (and yep, t'was indeed pe-ne-lowp back then, hehe)...i liked it so much i actually ignored my mom's instruction to finish all the contents first before going to the next book so i could finish the story. it has a funny ending...i won't tell you what happened, though! dalhin ko na lang one of these days...heck, you were able to wait for so many years, right?! hihihi

PS
my crazy friends and i end up using bert's stint here to further validate our theory/suspicion--he's gay...they're gay (ernie's projecting! he actually wants the role but isn't okay with the idea of giving us a hint that he is indeed gay), damn, im gonna blog about this!!!
